Such is the Ardhanarishwar form of Shiva
Ardhanarishwar form means half female and half male. In half of this Ardhanarishwar form of Lord Shiva, the male form of Shiva resides and in the other half, the female form of Shiva i.e. Shakti resides. This form of God indicates that man and woman are two sides of the same coin and both are incomplete without each other. Creation cannot be imagined without either of these two.
This is why Lord Shiva took the form of Ardhanarishwar
According to mythology, Lord Brahma was entrusted with the responsibility of creating the universe. When Brahma ji started the work of creation of the universe, then he came to know that all these creations of his will be destroyed after life and he will have to create anew every time. It was a big dilemma in front of him as to how the world would grow in this way. After a lot of thinking, Brahma ji reached Lord Shiva.
On the request of Brahmadev, Shiv ji took this form for the origin of both male and female. Lord Shankar gave darshan to Brahma ji in this form. Shiva was seen in half of his body and Shiva in the form of a woman i.e. Shakti in the other half. By seeing this form of his, Lord Shiva inspired Brahma ji to create a fertile creature.
In this way, Shakti got separated from Shiva and then Shakti manifested another Shakti from the center of her head with the same radiance as her own. This Shakti then took birth in Daksha’s house as his daughter, after which the creation began.
